On September 25th 2011, over 40,000 athletes set off on the fastest marathon course in the world, cheered on by a million spectators and more than 70 live bands, the 38th BMW BERLIN MARATHON will once again captivate the German capital.
Participating in the 38th BMW BERLIN MARATHON means a lot more than just running the same 42 kilometres together with the fastest athletes in the world, however. Experiencing the fantastic atmosphere along the course and running through the Brandenburg Gate and past the grandstands the last 400 metres to the finish line make this euphoric marathon race an unforgettable experience for everyone.
Like in the years before there were participants starting on wheelchairs (8:35 a.m.), there was a group of handbikers (8:45 a.m.) and the group of power-walkers (9:00 a.m.). Skaters were able to participate on September 24th (Saturday) in a seperate race (4:00 p.m.). The runners started with the power-walkers at 9 am on Sunday morning.
Everybody was looking forward to this year's event. Registration time for runners, power-walkers, handbikers and wheelchairs was up and a record number of 40,000 runners started this year.
